A Sheffield-based community dedicated to improving mental health by reconnecting people with the outdoors.
InnerCityHealers CIC is a Sheffield-based community organisation dedicated to improving mental health, wellbeing, community cohesion, and access to nature.
Through outdoor activities, community events, sports programmes, and wellbeing initiatives, we create safe and inclusive spaces that bring people together, promote positive mental health, and encourage active lifestyles.
Together, we're creating healthier minds and stronger communities — one step closer to nature.
Things we've done so far — and keep coming back to.
We've explored trails, been on hikes and rambled through forests — getting out into the landscape around Sheffield and the wider Peak District.
We run group hikes that build connections and open up space for new conversations — often the best part of the day happens on the walk back down.
We've played outdoor sports like cricket and football, and ventured out to high-rise activities such as GoApe — and more.
Campfires, camping trips, and a chance to reflect on who we are and who we want to be — together.
You don't need to be fit, experienced or kitted out. Every session is built to welcome people exactly as they are.
Based in Sheffield, with trips further afield across the Peak District and the rest of the country.
Key statistics from 2024–2026. Many activities and participants go undocumented — the real numbers are higher.
Our programmes provide opportunities for young people and community members to improve physical health, strengthen mental wellbeing, reduce social isolation, build confidence and resilience, develop positive peer relationships, connect with local services, engage with Sheffield's natural environment, and foster stronger, more inclusive communities.
We've successfully brought together people from diverse backgrounds through:

Our vision is to expand opportunities for young people and communities across Sheffield by:
Growing up, I watched someone I love manage a serious mental health condition — and I never quite knew how to help. It's a hard thing to put into words, knowing someone is struggling and not having the tools to support them.
One day, we decided to try something new: spending time outdoors, surrounded by nature, just to see what would happen. It turned out something so simple could hold a surprising amount of power.
The fresh air, the open space and the quiet of being outside brought a kind of peace I hadn't expected. Watching that unfold pushed me to keep going — more walks, more hikes, more trips — until it became something bigger than either of us.
That period stuck with me, and it's what pushed me to start an organisation built around the outdoors and the people in it. It's amazing how being outside can help us reconnect with ourselves, and with each other.
